Irrigation Winterization

It’s that time of year for Sprinkler System Winterizations. As temperatures continue to drop, it is just a matter of time before the water in your irrigation pipes will begin to freeze. Freezing causes expansion, and expansion causes pipes to break.

Winterizing a sprinkler system is the process in which water is forced out of the lines, valves, backflow device, and heads using an air compressor. Air is exchanged for the water normally found in the lines and therefore, reduces the likelihood of damage occurring to your system during the winter months.

When is it too cold to leave water in your sprinkler system lines? Well, freezing is freezing. There’s no grey area there. As temperatures approach freezing you’re chances increase of damaging your sprinkler system if it hasn’t been properly winterized.
